Using Omnipage Pro 12.0
To convert text images to text files using the
flatbed HP ScanJet scanner:
Open Omnipage Pro: Click on the Apple
icon in the upper left hand corner of the screen. A menu
will appear; pull your cursor down to
Applications,
then to
Scanning Software,
and then
select Omnipage Pro
12.0 from the list that appears to
the right.
Make sure that the scanner is on: If it
is on, the green light on the bottom of the front of the
scanner will be on. The power button is located on the right
side of the scanner towards the back.
Open the scanner cover and place your
picture/image face down on the glass, positioned in the
upper right hand corner where the green and white arrow
is.
After the application has started, select "Scan Image" from the pop-up menu to the right of the "AUTO" button.
NOTE: If "Scan
Image" is already selected, you
may eliminate this step.
Now click on the scanner icon to the
right of the "AUTO" button.
Omnipage will now scan your image and
display it on a screen:
Next we need to tell Omnipage where on
the image to look for the text you wish to convert:
Position the cursor in the top left hand
corner of the text you wish to convert; if you
click-and-drag the mouse you will create a box around the
text. When you release the mouse button this box will turn
blue (as pictured).
After you have selected the area you wish
to be converted, make sure that "Perform OCR"is
selected in the pop-up menu under the icon with the reading
glasses on it, as shown.
Now click on the icon with the reading
glasses on it:
Omnipage will now attempt to convert your
text image into text format. This may take several minutes.
When it has finished, it will display the converted text
file in a new window:
You may now save it to disk. Under the
"File"
menu, select "Save
As..." Select a location for
your file and give it a name (NOTE: If you are going to be
using this file on the web, make sure you don't have any
spaces in the name).
At this time you must select a format
from the pop-up menu to the right of "Format:" If you are
going to be using this document on the web, you may format
it directly to HTML, or you may wish to edit your document
further using an alternate program like Word.
Important:
Make sure you proofread your document carefully. Omnipage
Pro sometimes misreads letters or words.
