How do I...

The UCSC account is your network identity. You must use the UCSC username and password to connect to the UCSC modems. For more information on UCSC accounts, sundry accounts, modem time, getting more disk space, and changing your UCSC password, see the ITS FAQ page.
  • If you are a Faculty or Staff member, obtain a UCSC account request form at your unit's Service Center OR download it, fill it out, and turn it in.
  • If you are a Student, register on-line for your UCSC account. Visit any attended Instructional Computer labs for more information and assistance.
  • If you already have an internet connection (for example, via ResNet or a private ISP) use telnet to connect to siamese.ucsc.edu. Use the login name "register" and the password "athena". Follow the instructions on the screen. You will need to know your PIN from the Registrar's office.

  • Wireless connections require computers with wireless capability. Please see CruzNet for further information.
  • Commercial internet service providers (ISPs) can provide you with much of what you need, however some resources, such as specialized databases in the library, are restricted to access from the UCSC network only. If you wish to have DSL service, you will need to contact a commercial ISP.
